WIND POWER: GELEX GROUP’S STRATEGIC MOVE

In the context of increasing demand for electricity for socio-economic development, renewable energy is being chosen by Vietnamese businesses as a strategic step on a large playing field. Foreseeing the trend of using clean energy, Gelex Quang Tri Energy Joint Stock Company invested in building a wind power plant in Quang Tri.

Vietnam is facing an energy shortage and responding to natural disasters and climate change, so the development of renewable energy (wind power, solar power, biomass…) is a very suitable solution and an inevitable trend. With practical effects, wind power is coming to life in many places. With great potential for renewable energy development, including wind power, Quang Tri is becoming the center of attraction for many investors in this field. Quang Tri identifies the energy industry as a breakthrough development field, one of the three main pillars for economic development, and strives to turn Quang Tri province into an energy center of the Central region in the near future.

With the wind power project, the People’s Committee of Quang Tri province has approved for Gelex Quang Tri Energy Joint Stock Company to invest in wind power plant projects in Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province. Detailed information from Gelex said that all 5 wind power projects of Gelex Group with a total investment of more than 6,000 billion VND, including: Huong Phung 2 and Huong Phung 3 wind power plant projects (including 12 turbines with a total of 12 turbines with a total investment of more than VND 6,000 billion). installed capacity of 50MW), and projects of wind power plants Gelex 1, 2, 3 (including 21 turbines with a total installed capacity of 90MW). At the end of October 2021, the Wind Power Plant Complex officially came into commercial operation, eligible to enjoy preferential electricity prices (8.5 cents/kWh for 20 years, excluding value-added tax). increase) according to Decision No. 39/2018/QD-TTg, dated September 10, 2018 of the Prime Minister on the mechanism to support the development of wind power projects in Vietnam.

Sharing about the construction process of wind power projects, the company representative said: “This is the result of a journey full of enthusiasm and efforts of the Board of Directors and employees of Gelex Group over the past time. . We have faced many difficulties due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic and social distancing, overcoming many difficulties and challenges, we have successfully finished all 5 wind power plants before. October 31, 2021, ensuring economic, technical and financial targets for businesses. This is an affirmation of Gelex Group’s capacity and experience in the field of wind power, and is a premise for Gelex to continue implementing larger-scale renewable energy projects in many provinces in the near future.” .

With the advantages of using clean energy to produce electricity, no greenhouse gas emissions, and no environmental pollution, Gelex Wind Power Plant is in line with Quang Tri province’s policy of economic development – society associated with environmental protection. At the same time, the project contributes to meeting the electricity demand growth of the province and the region. Gelex Group’s wind power projects are financed by BIDV, Vietinbank, and co-financed by Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW) of the Federal Republic of Germany in the form of export credits (ECA) with an insurance organization. The danger is Euler Hermes. With this form of credit, projects can access low-interest capital with a long loan period. To meet the requirements of an insurance organization, the investor needs to be a reputable unit, have a lot of experience in project implementation, and have a good credit rating.

In terms of technology, all projects use gearless turbines (capacity of 4.2 MW) manufactured and supplied by Enercon (Federal Republic of Germany), with the advantage of a large power curve. and can generate electricity at low wind speed (2.0m/s). This is the most advanced rated technology available today. Enercon also provides turbine operation services for the investor during the entire operation period of the project.

Mr. Le Van Thang, Director of Gelex Quang Tri Energy Joint Stock Company shared: “With the Wind Power Plant coming into operation, Gelex continues to affirm its business investment strategy associated with innovative and sustainable values. which the Group has pursued since its early days. In Quang Tri, the business’s strategy has met the consensus and support of the local government to help us effectively implement the projects. From the foundation of building sustainable businesses on an area of land, we will continue to develop new projects to enhance the economic value of the model with products that combine the advantages of industries.” .

After coming into operation and connecting to the national power grid, each wind column will contribute a stable and continuous capacity of about 04 MW/h, equivalent to the capacity of a small hydroelectric plant today. Contributing to meeting the demand for electricity load growth, ensuring energy security, contributing to the local budget, creating high-tech jobs, promoting the socio-economic development of the region and area.

The completion of the above 5 wind power projects has marked a new step for Gelex in energy investment in particular and in the infrastructure sector in general. With wind power, this renewable energy source is being encouraged by the Government to invest by localities and businesses, this can be considered a pioneering step of Gelex in Quang Tri. Along with previous projects, the Company has had a total of 260MW of electricity put into operation with the total power output of the plants estimated at 700 million kWh/year, expected to increase the total renewable energy capacity owned. by 2025 to 800MW.
